Dark Days

My Dad died two days ago.

He was the very reason I took up photography aged 14.

We used to make temporary darkrooms in the kitchen, even a on school night.

Which did not particularly help my performance at school.

But my Dad got it.

He knew.

The most important thing is to nurture interest in your child, and watch the enthusiasm grow and the rest would follow, with luck, opening up whole new possibilities in their lives.

Without his encouragement I would never have been a professional photographer and had such a wonderful life.

As he passed away I told him he was my ladder to the stars.

And he truly was.

My Mother and a lady in the church I attend gave me the same encouragement.
I took my first wedding when I was 15-16years old, that was some 40 years ago.

Hi Twinlens

Sometimes all we need is someone to show us the way.

And my Dad surely did that

Extremely sorry to hear that, Drew.
At least you were there for him and told him your love.
My grandma died in Malaysia one month before I was due to go back there..... I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye.
Stay strong, my friend. And take care.

Drew many children have fathers that dont understand, have time for or genuinely love them.

You had a great father, he was lucky to have a thoughtful son such as yourself. He is at peace, and he leaves a legacy behind that he would have been proud of, may not have said it but he would have been.

Look after yourself mate, dont think you are alone as you have so many friends on here for you.

god bless

Rich

My sincerest condolences, Drew. It´s always a pleasure to read your blog as you write with so much experience and you have this down-to-earth approach on things. I hope you all the best during this sad time.

You said your father was your ladder to the stars and that reminded me of this video http://youtu.be/9D05ej8u-gU?hd=1 . If you have the time, do watch it. It´s inspiring.
